How to use this study timer

  1. Before pressing Start, write down exactly what you will finish in this block (for example “10 flashcards on chapter 4”).
  2. Study only that until the alarm rings. Phone face down or in another room.
  3. Take the 5 minute break away from the screen, then start the next block.
  4. After four blocks, take a 15–30 minute break and check what you covered.

A fixed study timer works because it replaces “study until I am done” (which feels endless) with a small, clear commitment. Short blocks with breaks also match how memory works: spacing and active recall between sessions help you remember more than one long cram.

Study timer tips that actually help

FAQ

What is the best study timer length?

For most students 25 minutes of study and a 5 minute break works best, because it is short enough to start even when you feel unmotivated. If you already focus well, try 45 or 50 minutes with a 10 minute break.

Is a 25 minute study timer the same as Pomodoro?

Yes. Studying for 25 minutes and resting for 5 is the Pomodoro Technique. After four study blocks, take a longer 15 to 30 minute break.

How many study sessions should I do per day?

Four to eight 25 minute sessions (about 2 to 4 hours of real study) is a realistic daily target for school and university students. During exam season some students do 10 to 12.

Does this study timer work on my phone and with the screen locked?

It runs in any modern mobile or desktop browser with no app or account. Keep the tab open; the alarm sounds when the session ends.

What should I do during a study break?

Stand up, drink water, stretch or walk. Avoid your phone and social media, which make a 5 minute break turn into 30.

Can I use it for a study with me session?

Yes. Put the timer full screen and share your screen, or embed it on your own site with the free embed widget.
